GRANTHAM, PA – Despite scoring twice in a two-minute span to tie the game in the second half, the Skidmore College women's soccer team's resilient second half comeback bid fell just short against Case Western Reserve, 4-3, as an untimely late game score forced the Thoroughbreds to bow out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round on Saturday afternoon.
Making the program's first national tournament appearance since 2013, and the third under Head Coach
Lacey (Largeteau) Walsh, the Thoroughbreds (11-4-3) fell behind 2-0 halfway into the first half and 3-1 early in the second as the Spartans (9-4-5) seemingly had Skidmore's season on the ropes, before the Thoroughbreds fought back with goals in quick succession to tie the match at 3-3 in dramatic fashion.
The 2024 season marks one to remember for the program, with the team winning its first Liberty League playoff game since 2011 as well as making the first appearance in the United Soccer Coaches national polls in over a decade, in addition to receiving an NCAA at-large bid.
