SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Tate Esler maintained his share of medalist honors, and the team earned a tie for second place, as the second round of the 2024 Skidmore Invitational at the Saratoga Spa State Park Golf Course was canceled due to inclement weather.
  • Coming out Sunday morning to play his final hole of the first round, first-year Patrick McLaughlin drained a difficult, downhill par putt on the tough fourth hole to keep Skidmore tied with Williams and Tufts for second with a team 302 score.
  • St. Lawrence won the team title by four strokes, and SLU's Ben Scholes tied with Esler for first on the individual leaderboard with matching 1-under 71s. Alex Moller (Williams) finished one back.
  • McLaughlin had a tough assignment to preserve the spot for the Thoroughbreds. The fourth hole played as the most difficult on the course, finishing nearly at a full shot over par. Out of 120 players, just 40 carded par or better on the 403-yard par-4.
  • The three groups that needed to were able to finish the first round at 7:30 a.m. this morning before the rest of the tournament was canceled due to persistent rain and cold temperatures. It is the second year in a row that the tournament has been held to one round due to weather.
  • The second-place team finish is the team's best in a home fall tournament since it won the Tim Brown Invitational (now played in the spring) in 2013.

From head coach Tom Oppedisano:
"We played very well on a State Park Golf Course that was firm and fast, playing very difficult. Congrats to Tate for his first Individual win and to Patrick for his gritty par coming out at 7:30 a.m. on a cold and rainy morning to play one really important hole for us. The team is definitely going in the right direction and carrying a lot of momentum into the off season. This is a great group of guys and we are very much looking forward to the spring season!"
