SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College men's tennis team wrapped up a successful first day hosting the Skidmore Open on Saturday, with three different singles quarterfinals qualifiers on the day alongside a pair of doubles duos moving on to tomorrow's semifinals round.
SINGLES PERFORMERS
- Seeded second in the "Adirondack" flight, junior Kyle Lundberg advanced onto the quarterfinals after beating Swarthmore's Max Pogorelov 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 in the round of 16. Lundberg would fall to Viktor Fraenkel of Bowdoin in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-1.
- Competing in the "Skidmore" flight, senior Griffin Biernat advanced to the quarterfinals after winning his round of 16 matchup due to injury. Biernat would bow out in the quarters after falling 6-1, 6-1 to Bowdoin's Mark Kneiss, who was seeded fourth.
- Placed in the "Saratoga" flight, junior Nika Mori defeated Bowdoin's Kiran Garapati 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16, before losing a third set tiebreak heartbreaker to MIT's Siddharth Marathe in the quarterfinals 3-6, 7-5, 8-10.
- Also competing in the "Adurindack" flight, sophomores Adel Aissaoui and Harrison Gradin each fell in the round of 16. Aissaoui lost to Bowdoin's Jack Pollock 6-3, 6-0 while Gradin was defeated by Sujan Garapati of Bowdoin, 6-2, 6-3.
- Sophomore Yuval Goodman lost in the round of 16 among the "Skidmore" flight after being narrowly downed by Wesleyan's Max Lustgarten in tiebreaks 5-7, 6-4, 9-11.
- Competing in the "Saratoga" flight, sophomore Fletcher King lost in the round of 16 to Denison's Mason J Conlin 6-1, 6-2.
DOUBLES PERFORMERS
- Slotted in the "Thoroughbred" flight, the reigning Liberty League Doubles Performers of the Week duo of Biernat and Goodman advanced onto the semifinals after beating Max Lindstrom and Kai Chen of Swarthmore, 7-5.
- Competing in the "Springs" flight, Mori and King advanced to the semifinals round after defeating Bowdoin's Aden Dorros and Cameron Zia 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker by a 7-4 margin.
- The duo of Lundberg and Aissaoui fell in the "Mountain" flight quarterfinals after losing 6-1 to Swarthmore's Hayes Gilbert and Rishi Verma.
