Skidmore comes out strong in first competition on new courts

Beilynn Geiss won both of her Friday matches.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team began its season with solid play at the Thoroughbred Invitational in the opening of the outdoor courts at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Friday.
 
  • Overall, Skidmore won five matches, with two wins over DI Siena and another three against Middlebury.
  • Beilynn Geiss led the way with two match victories. She and doubles partner Katie Wong took down Siena's Mullaney and Gomez 8-2. Then, Geiss won a rousing tiebreaker singles match against Middlebury's Annapantula: 8-7(10-8).
  • The team of Katherine Almquist and Katelyn Corpuz grabbed a tight 8-6 win over Madeiros and Boggiali of Siena. Later, Corpuz fill victim to a tiebreaker loss to McCann of Middlebury: 8-7(7-4).
  • Also, in singles against Middlebury, Konika Dhull slipped by her opponent, Farhat, 8-4.
  • Lastly, Skidmore's Coco Prokop cruised to an 8-2 victory over Amin.  
  • Play continues in the Thoroughbred Invitational Saturday morning. The Thoroughbreds are slated to battle Union in singles at 9 a.m., Siena in singles at 10:30 a.m., Middlebury in doubles at 1 p.m., and Hamilton in doubles at 4 p.m.
