Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Skidmore tops Plattsburgh 1-0 for third straight shutout

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Izzy Sullivan's 47th-minute goal was enough for the Skidmore College women's soccer team as Avery Rogers and Claire Wolgast teamed up for a shutout to keep the Thoroughbreds unbeaten through five games with a 1-0 win against Plattsburgh on Wednesday evening.

  • Skidmore (3-0-2) has surrendered just one goal thus far through five games. The Thoroughbred shutout streak stands at 282:47. Rogers had seven saves in the first half to keep the Cardinals at bay. Wolgast turned away two shots in the closing 45 to earn the win.
  • On a Skidmore corner kick just under a minute into the second half, the insert by Chloe Binder bounced into the mid-section of the Plattsburgh defender before caroming to Sullivan waiting alone at the top of the goalie box. Sullivan nailed the volley under the bar for her second game-winning goal of the campaign.
  • Skidmore held the guests to just four shots and zero corner kicks in the second half. The Cardinals had a chance for the equalizer in the 58th minute when Ella Santomassimo received an accurate pass on the run. Her left-footed strike was smothered by Wolgast on a dive.
  • The Cardinals managed just one shot on goal the rest of the way.
  • After an 11-6 Plattsburgh shot advantage in the first half, total shots finished 17-15 for Skidmore after the strong second period.
  • Cardinal keeper Lauren Haley had five saves.
  • Skidmore finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Ella Stone and Madison Hallet registered three shots each to lead Skidmore. Nora Fitzgerald tallied four for the Cardinals.
