SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team made its fifth appearance in the Liberty League championship game in 2022 and first since 2016. The Thoroughbreds ran into a St. Lawrence buzzsaw in the final, but the squad still finished the year with a 9-4-6 record with a third-place regular season finish and playoff wins over Hobart and a penalty kick triumph over Vassar. The Thoroughbreds turn the page to 2023 with confidence while knowing that everything is earned, never given, in the tough Liberty League.
The Schedule: Skidmore opens on Friday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. at home versus Oneonta State. The Thoroughbreds will then hit the road to visit SUNY Geneseo on Saturday. Skidmore will play four additional non-league games, including two at home (9/13 vs. John Jay, 9/16 vs. New Paltz) before opening Liberty League action on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Wachenheim Field versus Hobart. Skidmore will host three additional conference games down the stretch: 10/7 vs. RPI, 10/13 vs. RIT, 10/14 vs. Ithaca. The schedule closes with three road games.
Last Season: The Thoroughbreds earned 15 points in the Liberty League with a 4-2-3 record to finish third and one point ahead of both RPI and RIT. Skidmore rolled to a 2-0 first round win at home against Hobart before a scoreless tie against Vassar in the semifinal led to a 3-2 penalty kick Thoroughbred win. St. Lawrence was victorious, 3-1, in the title matchup.
Liberty League Tournament: The top six teams will qualify for the championship again in 2023 with the top two teams receiving byes and the right to host semifinals. The league title game will take place on Nov. 5 at the highest remaining seed.
Back: Skidmore had five all-conference honorees in 2022; three of them ae back.
Kamal Ibrahim tied Skidmore's single season goal record with 15 as a junior to pick up First Team All-Liberty League recognition.
Max Heberlein garnered Second Team All-Liberty League honors as an anchor on defense as another member of the defensive unit,
James Varriano, picked up an Honorable Mention selection. Skidmore returns a total of 23 players from last year's roster.
Incoming: The roster features seven new players.
