LEXINGTON, Ky.--The Skidmore College riding team rallied on the final day to win its ninth Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park. The Thoroughbreds moved from second to first on strong finishes from Emily Gilbert and Harper Sanford.

• Skidmore won with 46.5 points, just in front of Savannah College of Art & Design (45) and early leader Emory & Henry (42).
• It was a perfect season for the Thoroughbreds who won every show.
• Gilbert opened the day with six key points after a fourth-place finish in the Open over Fences.
• The championship came down to the final event. Sanford came through with an outstanding ride and third-place finish in the Open on the Flat, earning seven points and the national title.
• Gilbert also finished fourth overall in the Cacchione Cup for the nation's top high point riders.
• For the first time at nationals, every Skidmore athlete competing earned a ribbon. The Thoroughbreds won two of eight team events, finishing third in two others.
• Skidmore is the most successful program in IHSA history with a record nine national titles. The team has won championships in 2023, 2018, 2013, 2010, 1999, 1996, 1995, 1991, and 1990.
• Emily Gilbert on the win "As a senior it has been a surreal experience to work our way to the national level. Through the pandemic we lost two full seasons so our win has been an amazing way to end my career at Skidmore. I am so proud of all my amazing and hardworking teammates, and especially thankful for our coaches, Belinda Colgan and Karen Hurff."
• Elie Sigety received the National Championship Horse Show Sportsmanship Award.
