Thoroughbreds head to Middlebury for 16th straight NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The Skidmore College women's tennis team received a first round by in the NCAA Division III Tournament that begins on Friday. The Thoroughbreds will head to the Middlebury Regional and start play with the second round on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the winner of Drew and Hunter. The regional final will be Sunday at 12 p.m. Middlebury will play the winner of Hartwick and Lebanon Valley in the other half of the bracket.
 
The Teams:
Skidmore College (12-7)
  • This will be Skidmore's 16th straight and 26th overall NCAA tournament appearance. Skidmore won the 1998 NCAA Championship. This season's team is ranked 28th nationally and beat #38 Vassar 5-2 to win its 12th straight Liberty League Tournament. The Thoroughbreds are also ranked 14th in the ITA Northeast and 2nd in the NCAA Region II. Skidmore did not play any teams in the regional this season: however, the Thoroughbreds lost 6-3 to Williams, a team that split with Middlebury losing 3-6 and winning 5-1 in the NESCAC Semifinals. Skidmore is 6-4 against nationally ranked teams this season.
  • Skidmore lost to Amherst in the 2022 NCAA Second Round after beating Baruch 5-0 in the first round, 
Middlebury College (14-3)
  • The Panthers are an at-large invite to the tournament. The team is ranked 4th nationally and 1st in the Northeast and 2nd in NCAA Region I. The team has never won an NCAA tournament, but has been to five straight times and won nine NCAA Regionals. The Panthers are 7-3 against nationally ranked teams this season.
Drew University (18-2)
  • Drew is a repeat Landmark Conference champion. The Rangers are riding a nine-match win streak into the tournament. The team is ranked 5th in NCAA Region III
Hunter College (13-0)
  • Hunter won the CUNYAC title to earn its NCAA bid. The team is unranked.
Hartwick College (16-2)
  • Hartwick won the Empire 8 in October. The Hawks are unranked.
Lebanon Valley College (16-3)
  • The Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Champion brings an 11-match win streak into the tournament.
