Thoroughbreds win showdown with #19 Brandeis, 5-4

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's tennis team notched another win over a ranked team with a marathon 5-4 win over Brandeis University at the Saratoga YMCA. The 31st ranked Thoroughbreds are 7-4, while the 19th ranked Judges are 5-4.

  • Down 2-1 after doubles, Skidmore battled back one match at a time to pull out the win.
  • The number three doubles team of Beilynn Geiss and Konika Dhull prevented the sweep with an 8-3 win over Cecila Denis and Jiayi Zhang.
  • Maya Lal lost in two tie breakers at number one singles, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-7 (7) to Rebecca Suarez.
  • The Thoroughbreds then got wins at number two from Grace Truong, number four from Ella Provost, number five from Dhull, and number six from Beilynn.
  • Coach Curt Speerschneider: "Very solid team win. This was an important win because I felt like we didn't have our A game overall, but found a way to get to the finish line first.  The team did a great job of staying composed and just finding a way. Definitely a good follow up from last weekend and a good step forward."
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds host #13 Williams College on Friday at 1 p.m.
