#31 Skidmore opens Blue Grey Invitational with 7-2 win over #21 Mary Washington

Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 31st-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team took down #21 University of Mary Washington in the Blue Grey Invitational on Friday.
 
  • Maya Lal, Konika Dhull, and Beilynn Geiss all won twice for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Skidmore (6-3) led 2-1 after doubles. Lal and Chanhtel Thonphok won at second doubles, 8-4.
  • Geiss and Dhull put Skidmore ahead going into singles with an 8-7 (7-2) tiebreaker victory.
  • Lal swept first singles (6-3, 6-0).
  • Three players faced first-set losses and tuned them into match victories.
  • Grace Truong lost the first set at second singles, but won the next two to pick up another points for the Thoroughbreds (5-7, 6-0, 6-3).
  • Ella Provost did the same and won in three after falling behind at No. 4 (3-6, 6-2, 6-2).
  • At the sixth spot, Geiss came back to win (2-6, 6-0, 6-4).
  • Coach Curt Speerschneider: "Very solid win today.  It was great to see a lot of what we've been working on the last few weeks really pay off.  The team came in with a specific game plan and executed it with a lot of confidence, which is what it takes to win tough matches.  We'll be tested again tomorrow and we know we have to keep looking for the next step forward."
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will face #22 Washington and Lee University on Saturday at 3 p.m. to close out the invitational

5. Dhull defeated Beckner 6-0, 6-2
6. Geiss defeated Smith 2-6, 6-0, 6-4
