Record setting opening day at the Liberty League Championships

ITHACA, N.Y.— Program records fell in five events on opening day at the Liberty League championships for the Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams. The meet is being held at the Ithaca College Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
 
Nic Sodi (500 free), Rachel Olson (200IM) and Brendan Lu (50 free) set individual marks, while the men's and women's 200 medley relay teams registered new top relay times.
  • Sodi took second in the 500 free in 4:34.73, dropping more than seven seconds off his previous mark set in 2022. Sodi put on a late attack over the final 100 yards nearly catching RIT's Theo Heilman who finished in 4:34.12. Brandon Lis was 17th (4:49.21) and Miles Herman 19th (4:49.84).
  • Olson finished fifth in the 200IM, lowering her program record to 2:09.55. Ella Palmet tied for 14th (2:15.48), Elissa Miller was 22nd (2:20.31), and Molly Jordan was 24th (2:20.59).
  • Lu's record came in the 50 free prelim. His time of 21.68 was .25 faster than Teague Costello's record set in 2016. Lu finished 12th overall. Gavin Schiavi was 15th (21.99).
  • The men's 200 medley relay team of Sodi, Liam Keating, Lu, and Schiavi were fourth in a record time of 1:35.10.
  • The women's 200 medley relay team of Palmet, Olson, Lizzie Day and Gretchen Gwitt set its program record with a 1:49.31 in a time trial after a DQ in the prelims.
  • April Cook was 19th in the 500 free (5:23.12), just in front of teammate Emily Czelusniak who was 22nd (5:27.32).
  • Keating finished 11th in the 200 IM (1:57.13). Will Quinn was 18th (2:01.51), David Marcello 20th (2:03.33) and Brian Borchard 24th (2:08.05).
  • Day took ninth in the 50 free (24.49) and Gwitt was 18th (25:01).
