Strong riding at Morrisville shows

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Skidmore College riding team faced a tough double header at Morrisville State College, over the weekend. The Thoroughbreds finished second on Saturday and fourth on Sunday, with outstanding individual performances on challenging horses.
 
Saturday's competition started with strong rides in the Open Equitation over Fences from Kenya Sanders '25 and Sophia Olivero '26, who placed first and third respectively.  Harper Sanford '25 took the win in the Intermediate Equitation, followed by Kayla Piper '24 in third and Elaina Doyle '24 in fourth.  Georgia Quackenbos '25 finished out the day's jumping classes with her IHSA debut, riding to fifth in the Limit Equitation over Fences on a challenging draw.

Sanders continued her winning ways in the Open Equitation on the Flat, which led her to the Reserve High Point Rider Award.  Sanford took second place.  Olivero stepped up to take first in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, with Aiden McNamara '27 taking fourth in his IHSA debut.  Skidmore riders took the top three placings in Limit Equitation on the flat, which Quackenbos returning to take the win, Isa Jensen '27 in second and Piper in third.  The day finished with a win from Stella Brown '25 and second from Shirley Jin '24 in the Pre-Novice Equitation, and a second place for Alice Condry-Power '24 in Introductory Equitation.  The team finished in the Reserve
Champion position with 40 points, just behind host school Morrisville State College with 41.

The Open riders again started the show day on Sunday with Sanders taking second with a beautiful trip in Open Fences and Olivero riding to fourth.  In the Intermediate Fences, Jensen won in her first IHSA over fences class.  Thoroughbred took top placings in the Open Equitation on the Flat with Sanders and Sanford taking first and second respectively.  Piper won her Limit Equitation on the Flat class to qualify for Regional Finals.  Jin and Jordan Townsend '26 both won their Pre-Novice Equitation classes, and Condry-Power finished the day for the riders with a second in the Introductory Equitation.

The team competition was close throughout the day, and the Thoroughbreds finished the day tied for fourth with Siena College, just four points behind Champion team Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The team next competes at home on November 11th.
