Williams holds off late Skidmore rally in 53-50 win

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team used an 8-0 fourth quarter run to erase a 44-36 deficit, but Williams College hung on over the final minutes for a 53-50 non-league win Tuesday night. The Thoroughbreds and Ephs are both 4-2.
  • Julia Blanck and Cassie Davidson were both in double figures for Skidmore. Blanck had the double/double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals. Davidson battled foul trouble to score 10 points and pull down five rebounds.
  • Williams had three players in double figures, with Arianna Greg scoring 14 points and securing a game-high 16 rebounds.
  • The game stayed within two possessions until Williams ran off a 7-0 fourth quarter run to open a 44-36 lead with 7:23 to play. The Thoroughbreds ran off their own run with four players scoring eight points to tie it 44-44 at the 3:51 mark.
  • The Ephs went 6-9 from the free throw line over the final minutes to preserve the win. Down 53-50, Skidmore had a pair of three-point attempts in the final 12 seconds, but couldn't connect for the tie.
  • Skidmore opens defense of its Liberty League title at home Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Clarkson. It will be the team's Stable Game and the opening of Alumni Weekend. The Thoroughbreds close the weekend by hosting St. Lawrence University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
