Swimmers pick up dual wins over Union, 167-117 and 172-122

Kelly Hsu won three more events for Skidmore.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's and men's swimming & diving teams earned respective 167-117 and 172-122 home dual wins over Union College on Saturday afternoon.
 
  • Skidmore was led by sophomore Brendan Lu and junior Nicolas Sodi with four event wins and junior Ryan Delfico and first-year Kelly Hsu with three wins apiece.
  • To start the meet, Lu and Delfico joined Liam Keating and Gavin Schiavi in first in the 200-yard medley in 1:37.82.
  • Lu grabbed additional honors in the 50-yard freestyle (22.26), 100-yard butterfly (53.01) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:16.41) along with Jonah Vaynshtok, Schiavi, and Sodi.
  • Sodi grabbed individual event wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:09.51), 100-yard freestyle (49.53), and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.71).
  • The women also began competition with a win in the 200-yard medley. The team of Ginny Hunt, Faye Mooney, Gretchen Gwitt, and Hsu clocked in with a winning time of 1:54.16.
  • Delfico went on to win the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.88) and 200-yard backstroke (2:03.26).
  • Hsu grabbed wins in the 200-yard medley relay in addition to the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.75), and 200-yard IM (2:17.58).
  • The 200-yard medley relay victory was also first of two wins for Mooney and Hunt. Mooney went on to place first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.77), and Hunt had a win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:26.48).
  • The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Emily Booth, Chloe Kim, Gwitt, and Sabrina Reed also snagged a win in 3:51.68.
  • Kim (100-yard backstroke- 1:06.38) and Caroline Rogers (500-yard freestyle- 5:34.03), April Cook (1,000-yard freestyle- 11:31.54), and Keegan Scharoun (100-yard backstroke- 56.33) each also won individual events in the effort for the Thoroughbreds.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will travel to New Paltz next weekend for a tri-meet with host SUNY New Paltz and Bard College.
