Thoroughbreds storm past Bard, 5-0, on Senior Day

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team completed its 2023 season with a 5-0 win over Bard on Saturday afternoon. Three Skidmore goals were scored by seniors, and senior goalkeeper Claire Wolgast posted a shutout as the program honored the class of 2024 in a post game ceremony.
 
  • Izzy Sullivan, Paige Karl, and Katheryn Dunn were the senior goal scorers for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Ella Stone had the other two Skidmore goals.
  • Sullivan also had two assists to finish the game with four points.
  • First-year Ellianna Caporusso had the remaining Skidmore point, an assist on the third goal.
  • Skidmore completed the season 6-4-6 overall and 1-4-4 in the Liberty League.
  • Bard wraps at 4-10-1 and 0-8-1.
  • Stone gave Skidmore the lead in the 24th minute on a give-and-go play with Sullivan inside the box.
  • Then, Sullivan stepped around a defender and ripped a shot from 14 yards out through the tip of Bard goalkeeper Seymone Rosenberg's hand in the 37th minute to double Skidmore's lead before the half.
  • Skidmore struck thrice more in the second half. Stone scored her second and team-high sixth of the year after collecting the pass through a pair of Raptor defenders from Caporusso on the run.
  • Karl got her first of the year on a long-range cross-corner shot inside the woodwork in the 73rd minute to make it 4-0.
  • Dunn finished it off with another shot from distance over the keeper's head and in.
  • Overall, Skidmore had a 29-7 advantage in shots on goal and put 13 shots on goal to two for Bard.
  • Wolgast turned both shots that she saw away for her second solo shutout and fifth overall on the year.
  • Skidmore took each of the game's three corner kicks.
  • After the conclusion of the game, Skidmore honored its seven graduating seniors: Claire Wolgast, Katheryn Dunn, Kyra Russman-Araya, Izzy Sullivan, Ellie Owen, Paige Karl, Madison Bourassa.
