Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— In the battle of the Liberty League's top two women's basketball teams, Ithaca College prevailed 73-61 Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center. It was the first league loss of the season for the Thoroughbreds who are 11-4 and 7-1 in league play. The 20
th ranked Bombers are 13-2 and 8-0.
- Kate McCarney came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points and had three assists for Skidmore. Emmy Plage scored 13 points and had nine rebounds, two steals, two assists, and three blocks. Sarah Chambers added nine points and 12 rebounds.
- Emily Dorn was 7-7 from the floor on her way to 19 points for Ithaca. Natalie Smith hit for 17 points and had five assists and Hannah Polce scored 13 points.
- The game got off to a frantic start with trading baskets and the lead five times over the first six minutes, with Skidmore in front 9-8 after a pair of Chamberlain free throws with 4:11 left in the first quarter. The Bombers then rode a 16-2 surge to go up 24-11 after one.
- Skidmore hung in, cutting the lead to 37-28 at the half. A Plage three with 6:53 left in the third, pulled the Thoroughbreds to within five, 42-37. That was as close as Skidmore could get with the Bombers hitting 22 of 26 (84.6%) second-half free throws.
- Ithaca went to the line 33 times in the game, making 25 of 33 (75.8%). The Thoroughbreds were 12-21.
- Skidmore continued to get key bench scoring with a 20-9 advantage.
- The loss snaps a five-game win streak.
- NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds will regroup to host Rensselaer on Saturday at 2 p.m. IT will be the first meeting of the season between the teams. Skidmore is 1 ½ games in front of the Engineers in the league standings.
