Skidmore moves to championship match with 5-2 win over RPI

ITHACA, N.Y.—The second-seeded Skidmore College women's tennis team will play for an unprecedented 11th straight Liberty League title on Sunday after a 5-2 semifinal win over RPI Saturday at Cornell University. The Thoroughbreds are 11-5, while the Engineers are 13-8. Skidmore will face top-seed Vassar College at 2 p.m.
  • The Thoroughbreds took a 2-1 after doubles. Grace Truong and Ella Provost won a tight 8-6 match at number two over K. Flores Gonzalez and L. Flores Gonzalez.
  • Skidmore easily won at four, five, and six singles to win the match. Truong (6-2, 6-2) beat Nitya Subramaniam at number four. Ella Provost was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at number five over Brooke Bauer and Chanhtel Thongphok won 6-0, 6-2 at number six
  • Skidmore has won 16 Liberty League championships, including the last 10 straight. Since the shift to a six-team tournament in 2015, Skidmore and Vassar have met in the championship match five times with the Thoroughbreds prevailing in all five matches.
  • The Brewers downed the Thoroughbreds 5-4 on April 16, ending the team's 48-match league winning streak.
  • Skidmore is ranked 30th in the latest ITA Division III national poll, while Vassar in 28th. Skidmore is currently ranked second in the NCAA Region II rankings and ninth in the ITA Northeast rankings – one spot behind Vassar in both polls.
