Thoroughbreds sweep Williams behind big innings

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team used a six-run first inning in game one and a four-run fifth in game two to sweep Williams (8-4, 6-2) on Friday.

GAME ONE
  • The Thoroughbreds batted around, sending 11 hitters to the plate in the first.
  • Chloe McGonagle had a two-run single in the frame, while Katie Anderson, Genesis Delgado, and Meghan Robertson all drove in one with singles. Kate Wilkie drew a bases-loaded walk.
  • Robertson finished 4-for-4 with two RBI. Delgado had two hits in three trips.
  • Williams struck first with two in the top half of the first.
  • Skidmore starter Hannah Davis settled down and retired eight consecutive Ephs. Davis went the distance and allowed four runs, three earned, on 11 hits and two walks. She matched her season high with eight strikeouts to pick up win number seven on the year.
  • Megan White split the gap in left for a double, Skidmore's only extra-base hit, to make it 7-2 in the third. Robertson singled White in one batter later to complete Skidmore's scoring.
  • Davis ran into some trouble in the sixth when bases were loaded, already one run in, with nobody out. She got out of it with no further damage thanks to a force out at home followed by a pair of punch outs.

GAME TWO
  • Anderson laced a two-run double in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie. Later in the inning, Delgado ripped a pinch hit double to the corner in right field to score two more insurance tallies.
  • Anderson had three RBI in total after a two-bagger in the third gave the Thoroughbreds a 2-1 lead.
  • Lindsey Raimondi set down the final eight batters she saw en route to her sixth victory of the campaign. She surrendered two runs on six hits on the afternoon. Against just one walk, Raimondi struck out seven.
  • White doubled over the center fielder's head to kick off Skidmore's first. After wild pitch, she scored on a Robertson sacrifice fly to right.
  • Williams crossed the tying runs in both the third and fourth innings.
  • Mara Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly in the third, and Alyana Granados had an infield single in the fourth to score Bailey Burge. Burge led off the inning by working the Ephs' only walk.

NEXT UP:
  • The Thoroughbreds will travel to MCLA on Tuesday, April 5.
