Equestrian perfect at home

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College equestrian team won the first of the semester's three home shows with a perfect score of 49 points. 
  • Chloe Bell-Thomson and Alexandra Vassiliou took home the High Point and Reserve High Point Rider Awards, respectively. The riders brought in an impressive 12 blue ribbons throughout the day, adding to their tally for the Blue-Ribbon Challenge.
  • The day started with a sweep of the Open Equitation over Fences. Emily Gilbert put in a smooth ride to take the win, with Kenya Sanders close behind in second and Sophia Oliviero in third.Skidmore riders won both the Intermediate Equitation over Fences, with Kayla Piper winning section A and Alexandra Vassiliou winning section B. In the Limit Equitation over Fences, Chloe Bell-Thomson brought home the blue in her section, while Ella Brophy and Xenia Zimmerman both took second in their sections to finish out the morning jumping classes.
  • The Thoroughbreds continued their winning ways in the afternoon's flat classes, starting with Harper Sandford winning the Open Equitation on the Flat, with Gilbert close behind in second.Sanders won the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, and Brophy, Vassiliou, Piper, and Bell-Thomson all won their sections of Limit Equitation on the Flat.
  • As winners of both of their classes for the day, Vassiliou, Piper and Bell-Thomson all entered the ring again to ride off for the High Point Rider Award.After thorough testing by the judge, Bell-Thomson was named High Point Rider and Vassiliou was Reserve High Point.The day concluded with wins from Madeline Johnson in the Novice Equitation and Leah Littlefield in the Pre-Novice Equitation (both in their IHSA debut), and Aurora Xu winning her section of Introductory Equitation.
  • The riders compete next week in their second home show of the semester on Saturday at 8 a.m.
