Skidmore clipped by St. Lawrence in Liberty League Final

CANTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team lost 3-1 to nationally 15th-ranked St. Lawrence on Sunday afternoon in the Liberty League Championship.
 
  • Marvin Sibanda scored all three goals for St. Lawrence (13-1-5) as it successfully defended its Liberty League title and earned the league's automatic berth into next week's NCAA Tournament.
  • St. Lawrence got the scoring going in the seventh minute. After Max Mogul dribbled near the corner of the six, he dished it back to Sibanda who was free for a left-foot drive from a few steps inside the box.  
  • Sibanda doubled St. Lawrence's lead on a counterattack with just under 15 seconds remaining in the half. A cross from the right wing by Miles Levy went off a sliding Thoroughbred defender's boot and on two bounces to Sibanda for the put back.
  • Sibanda completed his hat trick in the 85th minute on a penalty kick.
  • Max Heberlein directed in a header off a Daniel Cornicello corner for the Skidmore (9-4-6) goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game.
  • Shots finished 19-11 for Skidmore with shots on goal 8-7 advantage Skidmore.
  • Bobby Stratts had four saves, including a diving stop in the first half and a sliding save in the second half to keep the Thoroughbreds in it.
  • Woelfinger had six saves for the Saints.
