SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College riding team is set to open its 2022-23 season on the road on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Hartwick College.
Â
Last year, the Thoroughbreds finished third at the IHSA Zone 2 Finals hosted by St. Lawrence. Skidmore will host the Zone Finals in April for the first time since 2017 with the hope to capture the team title and a team trip to the IHSA Nationals for the first time since 2019 (2020 and 2021 events canceled), when the Thoroughbreds finished fourth in the country.
Â
"We are looking forward to starting our competition this year," said Skidmore head coach
Belinda Colgan. "The team is excited and ready to go!"
Â
Skidmore sent three riders to Nationals in 2022 as individuals. Two 2022 graduates (
Laurel Gaddis, Jade Bacherman) competed in addition to sophomore Harper Sanford, who rode to a ninth-place finish in the Individual Open Equitation on the Flat. Â Â
Â
Skidmore will host three consecutive shows after going to Hartwick to finish the semester and will open again in February with four events to tune up for the Region 3 Finals at Skidmore's Van Lennep Riding Center March 25 followed by the Zone 2 Finals April 8. The IHSA Nationals are scheduled for May 4-7.
Â
Skidmore has won a pair of national titles in the past decade, most recently in 2018.
