Thoroughbreds hold off Dragons for 3-2 win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— CC Wetter scored two goals to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 3-2 nonleague win over SUNY Oneonta Wednesday afternoon at Wagner Park. The Thoroughbreds are 9-7, while the Red Dragons drop to 5-8.
 
  • Skidmore led 3-0 before Oneonta staged a late comeback with a pair of fourth quarter goals.
  • Tobi Dolan opened the scoring for the Thoroughbreds with a long shot that found the far corner off a pass from Carrie Hughes at 18:35. That was the lone goal of the first half.
  • Wetter scored her first goal at 34:45 from Kayla Hassett for a 2-0 lead. She made it 3-0 with her ninth goal of the season at 43:41 from Hughes. It was the second two-goal game of the season for Wetter, who has scored two goals in a game, four times in 36 career games.
  • The Red Dragons made it interesting in the fourth quarter with a Carly Waszczak goal at 49:17, followed by a goal from Morgan Fleming at 52:36. Skidmore was able to settle down and kept Oneonta off the board the rest of the way for the 3-2 final.
  • Skidmore had a wide 16-2 shot and 14-3 corner advantage.
  • The win was the 11th straight in the series for the Thoroughbreds, who hold a 22-4-1 lead.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds travel to Vassar on Oct. 21 for a Liberty League contest and then return home on Oct. 23 to face Rensselaer at 12 p.m.
