Thoroughbreds host RPI on Senior Day

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to competition for the first time since Dec. 4 taking on Rensselaer on Senior Day for the Class of 2022.
 
The women (2-4) lost 206-68, while the men (2-4) fell 208-78. The teams will compete in the Vassar Sprint Invite on Jan. 29 before the Liberty League Championships Feb. 16-19.
 
Diver Sophia May won both boards. Her score of 225.23 on 1-Meter moves her to 3rd all time at Skidmore. She scored 221.33 on 3M.
 
April Cook had strong swims in both the 1000 Free (11:25.69) and 500 Free (5:35.67) to finish second.  
 
Miles Herman also touched second in both distance races, going 10:29.45 in the 1000 and 5:09.11 in the 500.
 
Ryan Delfico was just out-touched for the win in the 100 Back, placing second (56.33) and in the the 200 IM (2:03.71).
 
Emily Czelusniak had a strong finish to nab second place (2:29.00), while Brooke Edwards did the same in the 100 Fly (1:05.22).
 
Gavin Schiavi and David Marcello went 2-3 in the 50 Free, touching 23.50 and 23.73 respectively. The duo repeated that placing in the 100 Free. Schiavi touched in 52.15, while Marcello went 52.55.
 
"It was fantastic to honor our eight seniors, Lila (Campbell), Chloe (Cummings), Brooke (Edwards), Samantha (Horowitz), Annie (McDermott), Gabby (Makower), Marco (Amantini) and Nick (Meconiates) today," said Skidmore coach Jill Greenleaf. "Their collective impact on our program has been immense and I'm so proud of each of them. 
 
"Today was a tough meet for us coming off three weeks of intense winter training, but many of athletes were able to swim near season-best times.  The work they have put in, and will continue to do, is setting us up well for our Liberty League championship!"
