RESULTS

VERONA, N.Y.—The Skidmore College golf team played itself into contention for the Liberty League Championship with an opening round 299 on the par-72 Turning Stone Shenendoah course Saturday. The final round is Sunday.
 
Rensselaer is the early leader with 290. The Thoroughbreds and Clarkson are tied for second at 299. Rochester is fourth at 305. Hobart is fifth with 311, one stroke in front of St. Lawrence.
 
Rensselaer's Ryan Quinn and Thomas Fraser are tied for first at 71. Will Tone leads Skidmore with a one-over 73.  Harry Grosso and Sean Hurley are tied for 10^th with 75.  Kenneth Harroy is tied for 14^th at 76 and Cole Vacca is tied for 20^th with a 79.
 
Tone had three birdies, including two over the last four holes. Hurley had had a team-high five birdies in his round, keeping his composure after going four over on his first three holes to play one-under over the final 14.
