Women’s basketball to enter league play with perfect record

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team brings with it a perfect 5-0 record to Liberty League play when it hosts Clarkson on Friday at 5:30 p.m.  at the Williamson Sports Center. The Thoroughbreds round out the weekend by hosting St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Skidmore will look to even its program-best 6-0 start from the 2009-10 team. Last time out, the Thoroughbreds won their second straight game over a NESCAC opponent with a 10-point victory over Wesleyan.
 
Clarkson is off to an 0-4 start to the 2021-22 season and St. Lawrence comes into conference play also unbeaten at 5-0. The Saints open their Liberty League slate on Friday at Union.
 
For the Thoroughbreds, Kate McCarney leads the team in averaging 15.8 points per game. She also leads the team with 12 assists and 11 made 3-pointers. Julia Blanck enters the weekend averaging 13.6 ppg with a free throw percentage of 87.5 percent. The Thoroughbreds have won four of their five games by 10 points or less and rank second in the Liberty League in allowing 53.6 points per contest.
 
Mariah Benavides heads the Golden Knight balanced attack with 9.3 ppg in an offense that features six players who average at least 4.0 ppg. In the paint, Ruthie Nolan leads the way in grabbing an average of 5.0 rebounds.
 
On the St. Lawrence side, three players share the load with over 11 ppg: Katie Frederick, Dylan Watkiss, and Ava McCann. Frederick also has a double-double average with a league-leading 14.0 rebounds per contest. The Saints feature the Liberty League's best offense thus far, averaging 72.4 points.
