SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team will play its first game in 622 days on Friday, Nov. 5 at SUNY Oneonta to kick off the 2021-22 season.
The Thoroughbreds will play a full 25-game schedule, 18 of which are within the Liberty League. Tip off for the season opener at Oneonta is slated for 6 p.m.
The 2019-20 season closed with wins in three of the last five contests to finish with a 7-18 record and 5-13 in the Liberty League. The entire 2020-21 season was canceled.
Four members from the 2019-20 squad return to the Thoroughbred roster this season: seniors
Clare Driscoll and
Toyin Koleoso, and juniors
Kate McCarney and
Maddie Hastings.
The pair of sophomores, who will compete for the first time this season, are
Emilija Jakumaite and
Julia Blanck. Filling out the roster are seven freshmen:
Emmy Plage,
Becca Horger,
Amelia Medolla,
Maddison Thomas,
Cassie Davidson,
Sarah Chambers, and
Andi Levitz.
Jessica Turner, Skidmore's fourth-year head coach, will look for the newcomers to gain early experience as the first five games are against non-conference opponents, including three New England Small School Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foes. Skidmore opens at home on Wednesday, Nov. 17 versus Sage.
The 2019-20 squad scored 56.5 points per game on a 36.9% clip from the field. McCarney is the leading returner in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game and she led the team with 79 assists and an average of 36.2 minutes played. Driscoll averaged 9.5 points per game, had a team-leading 34 blocks, and was third on the team in total rebounds. Koleoso had 137 boards in 2019-20 to lead the team and Hastings was second with 131.
Skidmore will play 18 of its final 20 games in the Liberty League. Notable home events include the Stable Game on Dec. 4 versus St. Lawrence, Alumni Weekend Jan. 14 and 15 versus Vassar and Bard, and the Big Green Scream/Senior Day on Feb. 5 against Ithaca.
