ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team earned a 56-39 win at SUNY Oneonta to begin the season on Friday.
Amelia Medolla led the way for the Thoroughbreds in her collegiate debut with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
Clare Driscoll and
Kate McCarney posted nine points each. Eleven Thoroughbred players recorded at least one point.
Maddie Hastings had a team-high 12 rebounds, including three of Skidmore's nine offensive boards. She had four points.
Emilija Jakumaite had five points, went 2-for-3 from the field, and tallied seven rebounds.
Megan Palmatier led Oneonta with 13 points, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. Olivia Dobrovosky and Margaret Nardelli had six rebounds apiece. Narelli also drilled the Red Dragons' only 3-pointer (1-for-18) of the night.
Skidmore had much better success from behind the arc, shooting at a 35 percent clip (7-for-20). After a slow start shooting, the Thoroughbreds finished 20-for-53 (37.74%) from the field.
The opening quarter saw just 13 points, nine from Oneonta. Then, Skidmore shot 46.15% in the second quarter to take a narrow 22-18 lead into the break. The lead hovered around 10 in the third quarter before opening it up to as much as 20 in the final stanza. Skidmore shot at a 70-percent clip over the final 10 minutes.
Skidmore had 28 points off the bench, scored 20 in the paint, and had nine second-chance points.
Skidmore returns to play on Saturday, Nov. 13 on the road at 2 p.m. at Williams College.
