ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded RIT women's soccer team defeated fifth-seeded Skidmore, 2-0, in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers move on to play regular season champion and nationally fifth-ranked William Smith in the semifinals on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds end the season at 8-7-1. RIT heads into the next round with a record of 10-4-3.
Madison Corso and Morgan Monteith scored the goals for RIT. Corso opened the scoring in the 29
th minute out of a crowded box on a touch from Olivia Harris. Jessica Gomez took the ball off of a Skidmore body on an RIT corner kick and flipped it to Monteith for the tap-in in the 54
th minute.
Ava Keller had six saves for the Thoroughbreds.
Ella Stone had a game-high four shots and two on goal.
Kyra Russman-Araya put one shot on target in three shot attempts. RIT had the 13-12 shot advantage, paced by Harris, who tallied three. Darcie Jones made four saves in the shutout.
The Tigers had a 9-2 edge in corner kicks, and was called for nine fouls to Skidmore's four.
