ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College equestrian team won the first horse show of the 2021-2022 season with 36 points over host team Hartwick (34 points). It was the team's first competition since the 2019-2020 season was cut short by the COVID pandemic.
After starting off the day with riders in the Open and Intermediate Equitation over Fences, including college debuts by
Kenya Sanders (Open Fences, 6
th) and
Keilty Archibald (Intermediate Fences, 4
th),
Laurel Gaddis and
Franca Bibow brought the first wins for the team in Limit Equitation over Fences.Â
The wins continued in the afternoon for
Emily Gilbert  in Open Flat, and Naomi Bennet in Limit Flat. After a second-place finish in her Limit Flat class, Gaddis also rode away with the Reserve High Point Rider prize. The day finished off with collegiate debuts for
Aliah Debejian in Novice Equitation and
Jade Bacherman in Introductory Equitation, who both finished second in their classes.
The team next competes in a double header at Morrisville State College on November 6
th and 7
th.
