Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Thoroughbreds and Golden Knights play to scoreless stalemate

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -The Skidmore College men's soccer team more than doubled up Clarkson University in shots (19-8), but neither team could score over 110 minutes resulting in a nil-nil tie on Wednesday afternoon.

Both teams have one game left in the regular season. Skidmore is 2-3-3 in the Liberty League and 7-5-3 overall. Clarkson is now 2-5-1 in the conference and 4-8-3 overall. Skidmore closes on Saturday, Oct. 30 on the road at Bard. The Thoroughbreds trail Hobart (3-3-2) by two points for the sixth and final playoff spot.

The first half was played scoreless thanks to a point-blank save from Bobby Stratts
and a team save for Clarkson when a shot by Kamal Ibrahim was destined to find twine, but Ethan Boyle hustled back to deny the ball from crossing the line. Bryan Benitez also made a save on a free kick from right outside the box for the visitors in the first half. Shot attempts were even at three after 45 minutes.

The second half was also scoreless with Skidmore carrying the play with the majority of possession time. The Thoroughbreds outshot the Golden Knights 10-1 in the second half. Benitez turned in three saves in the second half to keep it scoreless.

Clarkson turned up the pressure in the first overtime and produced two shots in the first OT period. The Thoroughbreds regained control over the final 10 minutes, outshooting the guests 4-2, and forcing Benitez to make three more saves over the final 4:30. He finished with seven for the game.

Stratts had three saves, including a key stop in extra time on a header from Greg Schebece. Finn Weber finished with a game-high four shots. Ethan Slager had two shots, both on target.
