SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's tennis team found itself in a tough Liberty League opening battle with Rensselaer, before coming away with a 6-3 win Friday night at Wenger Courts.
 
The Thoroughbreds (1-0, 1-0) have won 43 straight Liberty League matches, dating back to 2016. The Engineers are 3-1.
 
Skidmore led 2-1 after doubles.
 
Ella Provost shook off a 6-4 first set loss at number five singles to win the next two 6-2, 11-9 over RPI's Krisia Flores Gonzalez to give the Thoroughbreds a key singles win. 
Grace Truong won 6-1, 6-0 over Sanjana Surpeneni at number four and 
Katherine Almquist won 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at number two.
 
The Thoroughbreds are at Union on Sunday for an 11 a.m. match.
