The Skidmore College athletics department offers its full support to our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as it moves forward on this important initiative.
Dear Skidmore Community,
Â
The
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which consists of representatives from every team, is committed to building a culture of respect and trust within the athletic department and the Skidmore community at large. Despite our ongoing work, SAAC recognizes that more work needs to be done with respect to issues of diversity, inclusion, race, and social justice.
Â
In an effort to better our understanding of those issues, SAAC launched a Diversity and Inclusion initiative at the beginning of the fall semester aimed at creating a safe and inclusive community for all students on campus while amplifying students' voices. SAAC is in the process of creating an actionable plan for the spring semester which will include expert-led workshops, mandatory trainings, and continued dialogue with other groups on campus. This is in alignment with President Conner's Racial Justice Initiative, SGA's ongoing work, the goals of different clubs on campus, and other students' efforts.
Â
We will continue to work with the rest of the community to become more educated and take further action in order to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. While we recognize that achieving this will require collaboration with offices and departments on campus, we believe that the path to a better community will begin with student action and initiative. We are prepared and motivated to do the work that is necessary to move forward together.
Â
Sincerely,
Â
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
