SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team went on a fourth quarter surge, but Union College held on 54-47 at the Williamson Center Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds move to 3-14, 1-9 in Liberty League play, while the Dutchwomen improve to 7-8 and 4-5.

Jessica Centore led Skidmore with 20 points, two blocks, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Lilly Berg finished with 10 points. Berg, Clare Dricoll and
Maddie Hastings each had nine rebounds.

Laura Vinton the Dutchwomen with 12 points. Joana Santos scored an additional 10 points, while Amber Raisner contributed 10 rebounds.

The teams played a dead even first half tied 26-26.

Coming out of the break Skidmore struggled against the Union defense. The Dutchwomen scored the first nine points of the third quarter, opening a 35-26 lead. The Thoroughbreds played even after that with Union owning a 42-34 lead after three.

Centore quickly made a layup to open the fourth. Skidmore fought back and forth and with 4:04 remaining went on a 7-0 scoring run to bring them within three, 50-47 with 1:40 to play. Â The Dutchwomen were able to keep the Thoroughbreds in check the rest of the way for the 54-47 final.

Skidmore returns Jan. 31 to take on Rensselaer at 5:30 p.m.
