SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—After dropping an extra inning 6-5 heartbreaker, the Skidmore College softball team pounded Rensselaer 9-1 in the second game in Liberty League play Sunday afternoon at Wagner Park.

The Thoroughbreds are 15-15 overall and 4-4 in league play. The Engineers are 20-8 and 4-4.

Skidmore ripped five home runs in the two games.
Hannah Paolucci had two in the second game, while
Maddie Nelson had one.
Hannah Davis and
Karly Fishkin homered in the first game.
GAME 1
A wild first game went extra innings. Skidmore pieced together an unearned run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. RPI went up 2-1 with a pair in the third. Davis smacked a two-run homer to straight away center to put the Thoroughbreds back in front 3-2 in their half of the third.
The teams scored twice each in the fifth. Fishkin went deep with her third round tripper of the season, a two-run shot to put Skidmore on top 5-4.
RPI tied it in the seventh. Skidmore got its first two runs on in the bottom of the seventh, but the Engineers got out of the jam, the final out coming on a highlight catch in deep left field by Maddie Provencher. Provencher then hit the eventual game-winning home run in the eighth for the 6-5 final.
Megan White was 2-4 with a run.
Emily Popp took the loss in relief of
Hannah Davis. She gave up two runs in 3.2 innings on five hits. She had four strikeouts. Davis struck out seven in 4.1 innings, but walked five, allowing four runs on five hits.

GAME 2
Game 2 was all Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds scored nine runs on 10 hits in the mercy ruled game. Paolucci had a solo home run in Skidmore's four-run second inning and a solo shot in the five-run third inning. She finished 2-3 with two RBI and two runs.
Nelson accounted for four runs in the third inning with a grand slam to left. Fiskin was 2-3 with a two-run double down the line in the second.
Popp got the win in relief. She gave up an unearned run on three hits over 2.2 innings. Davis started and tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless ball.
