WILTON, N.Y. – The 28
th-ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team saw its five-match win streak come to an end, dropping a 9-0 decision to No. 2 Middlebury, in non-league action Saturday morning.
Skidmore falls to 5-2, while Middlebury, the defending NCAA Tournament champions, wins its season opener.
It was a close match at third doubles, as the team of
Jack McClaren and
Jason Keye battled with Middlebury's Andre Xiao and Aleksandr Samets. With the score tied at seven, the Middlebury pair won the tie break 8-6, taking the match and giving Middlebury the sweep.
Middlebury swept singles play, with each of its players winning in straight sets.
Travis Leaf fought valiantly at third singles, but fell to Stanley Morris, 6-4, 6-4.
Skidmore heads to California for Spring Break. The Thoroughbreds will take on No. 3 Bowdoin on Tuesday, March 12 on the campus of Whitter College at 4 p.m. ET.
