FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 11
th-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team fell short in its comeback effort, falling to host No. 19 University of Mary Washington by a 5-4 score on the first day of the Blue-Grey Invitational Friday afternoon.
Skidmore falls to 5-2 on the season, while Mary Washington remains unbeaten at 6-0.
The Thoroughbreds earned their four points in singles action, winning four of the six matches. 10

Risa Fukushige defeated Rachel Summers at No. 1 by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
Dea Koiava defeated Laura Quinn at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3.
Audrey SooHoo remained undefeated (6-0) in dual action, defeating Sophie Dixon at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4.
Lily Feldman held a 6-2, 2-0 lead over Danielle Mirabella at No. 4, before the match was cut short due to retirement, with Feldman taking the win to also remain undefeated (6-0) in the dual season.
Four doubles points separated the two teams, as the hosts defeated the teams of Fukushige and Karchere-Sun at No. 1 and
Jackie Ahn and
Jessica Ampel at No. 2, by 8-6 scores.
Day two of the Invitational will commence on Saturday, as the Thoroughbreds face No. 26 Johns Hopkins at 10 a.m.
