SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – In a physical Senior Day match, the Skidmore College men's soccer team ended in a 1-1 Liberty League tie against #16 Ithaca in front of a large Stable Crowd at Wachenheim Field Saturday afternoon.
Â
Skidmore is 6-4-4, 2-3-2 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca moves to 11-2-2, 4-1-1 in the league.
Â
An yellow card inside the box against Skidmore gave the Bombers an early opportunity after being awarded a penalty kick. Kevin Turi snuck it just below goalie
Sebastian Bosch into the lower right corner to put the Bombers up 1-0 in the 15
th minute of play.
Â
Ithaca's luck didn't last long as Skidmore forward
Isaac Myran was dragged down by an Ithaca defender inside the box a mere eight minutes later. Goalie Max Lichtenstein ran way out of the box trying to stop Myran's break away, but ended up bobbling the ball. Myran dribbled around the goalie and had a chance at a wide-open net before being dragged to the ground by the Ithaca defender, who in return was given a yellow card. This gave the Thoroughbreds a penalty kick that was seamlessly drilled to the right corner by
Stanley Langyintuo to tie the game 1-1.
Â
Despite another half and two periods of physical OT's, Langyintuo's goal would be the last of the night. The hard fought draw ended with a total of 34 fouls, four yellow cards, and one red card that resulted in Ithaca being down a man for the entirety of overtime.
Â
Skidmore led the game in both shots and corners. Bosch finished the night with seven saves, while Lichtenstein finished with six saves.
Â
Skidmore travels North Saturday October 26
th for more Liberty League action against St. Lawrence University at 3pm.
