SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Union College used a second half surge on the way to a 60-47 Liberty League win over Skidmore College Saturday afternoon at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The Thoroughbreds are 3-9 overall and 2-3 in League play, while the Dutchwomen move to 7-3 and 2-2.
Taylor Ong scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds for the Skidmore double/double.
Jessica Centore added 13 points and seven rebounds, while
Haley English had six points and nine boards. Â
Nicole Conley led Union with 20 points and eight rebounds. Amber Raisner had 12 points and three steals.
Skidmore used a 9-0 run to take an 18-7 lead after the first quarter. Centore scored seven of the nine points in the run, including a pair off a powerful Lily Berg block that
led to a fast break jumper.
The teams played even in the second stanza with the Thoroughbreds taking a 30-20 lead into the break. Centore (11) and
Taylor Ong (10) combined for 21 points.
Union came back in the third quarter behind a 13-0 run capped by a banked three-pointer by Sophie Borg for a 35-33 Dutchwomen lead at the 2:30 mark. Union scored 10 of its 20 points in the quarter off Skidmore turnovers.
Complicating play for the Thoroughbreds were two quick fouls called on Centore that sent her to the bench with 6:50 left in the third.
Union extended the lead to as many as 15 in the final quarter before the 60-47 final.
Skidmore will host nationally ranked Rochester Institute of Technology on Jan. 11 in a rematch of the 2018 Liberty League championship game, won 65-42 by the Thoroughbreds.
