SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –
Jessica Centore and
Haley English scored in double figures for the Skidmore College women's basketball team, leading the Thoroughbreds in a 71-47 defeat to William Smith, in Liberty League action at the Williamson Sports Center Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore falls to 4-10 overall and 3-4 in conference action. William Smith wins its fourth straight game to improve to 8-5 and 4-3.
Centore led the Thoroughbreds in scoring with 12 points, while English added 11 points and four rebounds.
Mia Morrison led William Smith with a 30-point, 10-rebound double-double. Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Herons led the whole way in this game, jumping out to an 11-2 start. They would lead by an 18-7 score after one, and extended its lead to as many as 20. Skidmore got going on offense late in the period, with an English 3-pointer reducing the deficit to 15 (37-22) at the 1:35 mark. Neither team would score for the rest of the half as William Smith held a 15-point halftime lead.
Skidmore would reduce the deficit to 13 on a few occasions, but could not get any closer as the Herons pulled away.
The Thoroughbreds will travel midweek to Vassar on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
