ITHACA, N.Y. – The 21st-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team continued its winning ways, remaining perfect after a 9-0 victory over Ithaca, in Liberty League action at Glazer Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (9-2, 5-0 Liberty League) have won their fourth straight match with the result. In league play, Skidmore has won 16 straight matches and have won 56 of the last 57 in both the regular and postseason. Skidmore will host No. 11 Amherst in its next match, next Saturday at 1 p.m. Ithaca (3-5, 1-3) will travel to No. 40 Vassar in its next match, next Saturday at 10 a.m.
In doubles action,
Alexa Goldberg and
Jessica Ampel swept its opponent at No. 3, defeating Sara Steinberg and Parley Hannan 8-0. The teams of
Michelle Fuca and
Renee Karchere-Sun at No. 2 and
Ada Wiggins and
Risa Fukushige at No. 1 picked up victories to give Skidmore a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
The Thoroughbreds would sweep its opponents in straight sets in singles to earn the shutout. Fukushige (No. 1), Wiggins (No. 2), and
Laura Swenson (No. 5) would win their matches by matching 6-1, 6-2 scores. Ampel (No. 6) would allow just one point in her 6-0, 6-1 victory against Hannan, while Fuca (No. 4) allowed just two in her 6-0, 6-2 victory over Taylor Ginestro.
