CANTON, N.Y. – A fourth quarter run by St. Lawrence proved to be too much for the Skidmore College women's basketball team, as the Thoroughbreds dropped their Liberty League opener by a 46-39 score, at the Ronald T. Burkman Gymnasium Friday evening.
Skidmore falls to 1-5 overall (0-1 Liberty League), while St. Lawrence moves to 3-2 (1-0 Liberty League) on the season.
Junior guard
Jessica Centore led the Thoroughbreds with 11 points on 50 percent shooting (5-of-10) from the field, adding four rebounds and two assists. Senior guard
Haley English added seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Katie Frederick led the Saints with 12 points and eight rebounds. Meghan O'Connor tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
After an evenly played first quarter, Skidmore got out in front with a 7-2 run to begin the second quarter, taking an 18-17 lead on an English 3-pointer with 7:36 to go. The Thoroughbreds would end the half with layups by sophomore guard

Toyin Koleoso, as the Thoroughbreds took a 28-23 lead into the break.
St. Lawrence would trim into the deficit in the third quarter, even taking a 34-32 lead at the 2:38 mark. On Skidmore's next possession, freshman forward
Mary Kate Palleschi drove to the lane and converted the lay-up while getting fouled. She would convert the ensuing free throw for the three-point play, as Skidmore took a 35-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
Both teams swapped leads early in the fourth quarter, before the Saints took the lead for good (38-37) on an O'Connor layup with 6:49 to go in regulation. St. Lawrence outshot the Thoroughbreds 12-4 in the final period in the come-from-behind victory.
Skidmore will complete the weekend with a visit to Clarkson on Saturday at 2 p.m.
