WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team opened play at the Williams Tip-Off Classic Friday night, falling to host Williams by a 65-35 score at Lasell Gymnasium.
Skidmore falls to 0-3, while Williams wins in its season opener.
Senior guard
Haley English led the Thoroughbreds with eight points, adding three rebounds. Sophomore guard
Sydney Tsutsui and junior center Lily Berg added five points each, with Berg adding a team-high eight rebounds.
Katie Brule led Williams with 12 points, while Lauren Vostal added an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double.
The Ephs led wire-to-wire in their season opener, tallying the first five points of the game. English drilled at 3-pointer with 4:32 to go in the first quarter as the Thoroughbreds trailed 7-5, but Williams went on an 11-0 run, leading 18-9 after one.
Skidmore scored the first three points of the second quarter, all on free throws, to reduce the deficit to six (18-12). Williams stretched the lead back to double digits with a 13-0 run late in the quarter, taking a 32-17 lead into halftime.
Williams would pull away in the second half, outscoring the Thoroughbreds by a 33-18 margin.
The Thoroughbreds will finish play at the Williams Tip-Off Classic with a Saturday matchup against Salem State at 1 p.m.
