SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's swimming and diving team dropped its home opener to Union, falling by a 156-84 score, in Liberty League dual action at the Williamson Sports Center Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore drops to 1-3 on the season, while Union wins in its season opener.
Claire Stetten had a solid individual day, winning both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. In the 50, Stetten touched first by a slim margin (.20 seconds), winning in a time of 26.41. The 100-yard event was a bit easier as she won the event in 57.53. In the same event,
Olivia Czelusniak finished second in 58.14, with
Olivia Frechette right behind in 58.32, good for third. Frechette and Czelusniak also finished 2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle, with times of 2:07.10 and 2:08.73, respectively.
Other notable finishes include
Maddie Collins' second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, touching in 2:31.44.
Meredith Wagner finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.42) with
Alyssa Pacewicz right behind in 2:45.44. Wagner also touched third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.19).
Chloe Cummings posted an impressive 11-second drop from her 1,000-yard freestyle time earlier in the season, finishing third in the home meet with a time of 11:42.34.
In the relays, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Stetten, Wagner,
Elizabeth Levy, and
Olivia Czelusniak finished second in 4:25.99, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Brooke Edwards, Frechette,
Leadora Kyin, and
Emily Favreau finished in second with a time of 1:47.62.
The Thoroughbreds will host Utica in its next meet, next Saturday at 1 p.m.
