BABSON PARK, Mass. – A second-half goal by No. 13 Babson was enough as the Skidmore College field hockey team fell short in a 1-0 loss to the Beavers, in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
Skidmore falls to 8-10 on the season. Babson, ranked 13
th in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) rankings, wins its eighth straight to improve to 15-3.
After a scoreless first half, the Thoroughbreds nearly struck first in the 53
rd minute.
Gabby Hyman received the ball near midfield, using her speed to get past the final Babson defender for a breakaway. Babson goalkeeper Cassidy Riley came off the line, forcing Gabby to her right, as the shot went just wide of net. The Beavers kept Skidmore without a shot in the final 15:44 to preserve the win.
Babson outshot Skidmore by a 13-4 margin. The Thoroughbreds earned two penalty corners in the game.
Elizabeth Coughlin had a solid performance in net despite the loss, tallying eight saves. Riley made one save to earn the shutout.
