SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – An overtime goal by senior midfielder
Augustine Okoye lifted the Skidmore College men's soccer team to an overtime victory over No. 23 Union in the Liberty League opener Friday night.
Nearing the end of the second overtime in the 112th minute, Skidmore fed a cross into the middle of the penalty box, with Okoye kicking the ball just wide. Sophomore midfielder
Dario Flores recovered the miss, feeding it right back to Okoye, who tapped a low shot past the diving keeper to his far left, as the bench erupted in celebration.
Skidmore remains unbeaten with a 3-0-1 record overall and a 1-0 mark in league play. The Thoroughbreds have defeated a ranked opponent for the second consecutive season, having beaten then-No. 10 St. Lawrence 2-0 in Saratoga Springs back on Oct. 8. Union, recently ranked 23rd in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III poll, drops its first game of the season to fall to 5-1.

Jeremiah Kneeland also picked up his 100
th career coaching victory. He is 100-70-18 overall in his 11th season, going 42-25-11 over four years at Skidmore. He spent his first six seasons at Elmira College.
The game was a physical one throughout. Skidmore had a chance to take an early lead in the 28
th minute. Okoye got free after a scramble in net, his low shot hitting the post, going wide.
After an incident-free first half, the game changed on a red card charged to Union. Playing a man-up, Skidmore got aggressive on offense, leading to a penalty kick opportunity in the 72nd minute. Junior midfielder
Mike Park sank the ensuing shot, beating Union goalkeeper John Weitzman to his right.
The Dutchmen didn't give up, fighting back to tie the game in the dying minutes of regulation. Christopher McGrath took the throw in, feeding Omar Al-Homsi in front of net. Al-Homsi fired a shot past sophomore goalkeeper
Sebastian Bosch to tie the game with 2:11 remaining.
Skidmore's defense stood tall in the extra session, keeping Union without a shot to pick up the victory. They outshot the Dutchmen in the contest by a 17-12 margin.
Bosch made five saves in 111:24 to pick up his third victory. Weitzman made four saves in the loss.
The Thoroughbreds return home, taking on MCLA at Wachenheim Field on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
