SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Skidmore College veterans
Amanda Carilli and
Lauren Fortunato led the Thoroughbreds to a Liberty League sweep of defending champion University of Rochester 5-4 and 3-0.

The wins boost Skidmore's record to 10-16 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Yellowjackets are 10-8 and 0-2.

The Thoroughbreds scored a pair of unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for the come-from-behind win in the first game.

Down 4-3 in the seventh, Carly Fishkin reached on fielder's choice that resulted in the second out. Rochester decided to put the winning run on by intentionally walking the dangerous Fortunato. Amanda Popp launched a 2-0 pitch into right center that was misplayed, allowing Fishkin to tie it and Fortunato to win it.

Rochester scored on a double-steal attempt in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Skidmore scored three in the third behind a two-run Fortunato two-run double and a Foley RBI single.

The Yellowjackets tied it in the sixth on an infield error and then Haberly Kahn had an RBI single.

Harleigh Kaczegowicz put Rochester in front with a leadoff solo home run in the seventh that just cleared the fence in center.

Carilli settled down to get the next three batters to set the stage for the seventh inning heroics.

Fortunato was 1-3 with two runs, two RBI and a walk. She also had a big double play from center fielder, making the catch and completing the strong throw to the plate in the fifth.Â
Heather Mak had an unassisted double play when she snagged a line drive at third base with bases loaded and one out in the third inning.
Mary Farrington was 2-3.Â

Carilli went the distance, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk. She had one strikeout.
Â
Kaczegowicz and Lydia Pletz were 2-4, while Kahn was 2-3 with an RBI. Eleni Wechsler (6-3) took the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks. She struck out six.

Game two belonged to Carilli (7-7) The junior put together her best game of the season with the complete game shutout. She gave-up just three hits, walked one and struck out one.

Skidmore accounted for all of the game's scoring with three runs in the third. Fortunato had an RBI single and the Thoroughbreds scored two more on an infield throwing error.

Fortunato was 3-3 with a run and RBI.

Rochester's Sam Malecki went the distance, allowing three unearned runs on six hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

Skidmore is at The Sage Colleges on April 13 before a Liberty League road pair at Rensselaer on April 15.
