SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Castleton University pounded out 32 hits in a 13-5, 9-1 non-league softball sweep of Skidmore College Sunday afternoon at Wagner Park.

The Thoroughbreds are 6-12, while the Spartans are off to a 6-2 start.

After three scoreless innings in the first game, Castleton scored a pair in the top of the fourth, but Skidmore came back with three in the bottom of the inning behind
Emily Popp's RBI single and back-to-back RBI doubles from
Kristina Foley and
Jill Strileckis.

The Spartans plated two more in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer by Sarah Baker. Popp tied it 4-4 with another RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Castleton took over after that with three in the sixth and six in the seventh for the 13-5 win.

Popp finished 2-4 with two RBI.
Lauren Fortunato was 2-3 with a double and a triple. Strileckis and
Karly Fishkin each had two hits.Â
Amanda Carilli took the loss, allowing six earned runs on 15 hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Karli Theberge was 4-5 with two runs and an RBI and McKinlie Carpenter went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Spartans. Kayla Wood got the win, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk. She struck out six.

In the second game, Castleton scored nine runs on 17 hits. Pitcher Taylor Paquette remained unbeaten at 4-0. She allowed one unearned run on five hits, with two walks and four strikeouts. She helped herself out at the plate, going 4-4 with an RBI.

Lizette Roman-Johnston and Strieckis had two hits each for Skidmore.
