Albany, NY- The Skidmore College women's basketball team had its three game win streak snapped at Sage College, 54-50 Tuesday night.
The Thoroughbreds are 3-3, while Sage improves to 4-2.
Kelly Donnelly led Skidmore with 21 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assits.
Taylor Ong added 13 points, six assists, and four steals off the bench. She went 6-7 from the floor. The Thoroughbreds struggled from three-point range, shooting 1-14.
Skidmore held a one point lead with 2:26 left to play (48-47) before Genevieve Schoff hit a layup at 2:08 to give Sage a 49-48 lead and give the Gators the momentum needed for the win as they never gave up the lead after that. The score was Sage 51-50 with 49.4 seconds left to play and Skidmore had to foul Emily Parlsow and she proceeded to hit three of the last four free throws she attempted, including the final score of the game at 4.6 left to give the Gators a 54-50 win.
"Tonight we were not ready to bring what we needed to bring and do the things we needed to to be successful against a talented and very well coached team," said Skidmore coach Darren Bennett. "Sage is no longer a program in the rise, two conference championships and two NCAA appearances in the last three years makes them a program that is clearly there and we didn't respect that tonight. We have to be better at getting prepared for games. We are too up and down as a veteran group.
"We did some good things but our game is very inconsistent at times and that's hurt us for stretches. We've been able to battle through and battle back but it's a grind and tonight we were not able to make that break through. We will grow from this loss and make the necessary adjustments to stay strong and positive and consistent."
Skidmore's next game is on December 8 hosting Middlebury College at 8 p.m.
