Mary Beth Zahnleuter scored twice to lead the 16th ranked Thoroughbreds to a 2-1 Liberty League win over Vassar College Friday afternoon at Wagner Park.

The win keeps Skidmore tied for first in Liberty League play with a 4-0 league and 10-4 overall record. The Brewers are 2-2 and 7-5.

The Thoroughbreds have hit the 10-win mark for the 13th straight season and 20th time in the past 21 years. It was the 48th meeting between the teams. Skidmore has won 34 times.

After a scoreless first half, Vassar took advantage of a penalty corner in the 46th minute. Natalie Johnston's pass found Emily Poehlein alone in front and she scored her seventh goal of the season for a 1-0 Brewer lead.

Skidmore entered the game averaging 10.8 corners per game, but only earned two against Vassar. The Thoroughbreds made them both count.Â

Skidmore responded quickly to the Vassar goal, earning the team's first corner of the game at 47:00. After a
Kayla Rose insert,
Seeley Fancher placed a perfect pass to Zahnleuter who rattled the back of cage with a rocket from 15 yards out to even the game at 47:05.

The Thoroughbreds picked-up their second corner in the 62nd minute. Zahnleuter fired another one past Brewer goalie Liz Rotolo from 10 yards out off a pinpoint pass from
Marissa Folts.

Vassar got a penalty corner in the 68th minute, but couldn't take advantage as the Skidmore defense preserved the win.

The Brewers outshot the Thoroughbreds 9-5 and had a 6-2 corner edge.

Elizabeth Coughlin got the win in goal with four saves. Rotolo had two saves for Vassar, while Natalie Johnston had a defensive save in the first half.

Skidmore travels to RPI for a 1 p.m. Sunday game. The Brewers host St. Lawrence on Sunday at 2 p.m.
