SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – After a pair of non-conference matchups, the No. 16 Skidmore College field hockey team returns to league action this weekend, with matchups against Vassar and RPI. The Thoroughbreds will host Vassar at Wagner Park on Friday, before taking the short trip on Sunday to Troy, N.Y. for a matchup against RPI.

Friday's contest serves the Thoroughbreds' annual "Thoroughbreds vs. Cancer" event. This event, in its seventh year, serves as Skidmore's effort to further raise cancer awareness. The team will be collecting donations throughout the day and t-shirts will be sold, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

"Cancer has impacted the lives of so many, including our own extended Skidmore Field Hockey family," states Skidmore Head Field Hockey Coach Beth Hallenbeck. "I encourage everyone to join us in supporting this important cause."

The Skidmore offense has been on fire over the three-game win streak. The Thoroughbreds come into the Friday matchup against Vassar having outscored its opponents 13-1 over the week-long stretch. Skidmore's nine victories this season have come at a margin of 35-4.

This year's squad is balanced offensively. 11 Thoroughbreds have scored a goal this season and four Thoroughbreds have tallied five goals or more, with Gabby Hyman leading the way with nine goals. Miranda Davenport and Marissa Folts share the assist lead with five a piece.

On the defensive end, Kayla Rose is among the Liberty League leaders with four defensive saves. Folts and Meaghan Lynch have two apiece. In net, Zoe McGuire sports a 1.68 goals against average and a .813 save percentage. She leads the Liberty League with three shutouts. Elizabeth Coughlin has played in five contests, and she has a solid 0.55 goals against average and a .667 save percentage to rack up a 3-1 record.

SCOUTING VASSAR

Vassar comes into the weekend with a 7-4 record overall and a 2-1 mark in league play. The Brewers come off an upset victory against then- No. 20 William Smith on Saturday, 1-0. Leading the way offensively for the Brewers is Megan Caveny, who is third in the conference with 11 goals. On the other end, the Vassar defense has been solid, giving up just 11 goals on the year, the lowest mark in the league. Liz Rotolo leads the Brewers in net, with a 0.94 goals against average and a .816 save percentage, good for second best in the league.

The last time these two teams met was in the 2016 Liberty League Semifinal. The Thoroughbreds avenged an earlier loss that season to Vassar, getting a pair of goals from Rose in Skidmore's 3-1 victory over the Brewers in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 2. Skidmore hasn't lost to Vassar at home since the 1991 season.

SCOUTING RPI

RPI comes into the weekend with a 1-10 record, looking for its first league victory this season with an 0-3 mark. The Engineers fell to No. 19 Rochester in their last matchup, a narrow 2-1 score in Troy. Taylor Clink leads the Engineers with 14 points on six goals and a pair of assists. Mikaela DiBello leads RPI with four assists. In net, Rachel Kaufman has made 10 starts, posting a 3.57 goals against average and a .736 save percentage.

The last times the teams met was on Oct. 8 of last season. Davenport tallied two late goals to stave off the potential RPI upset, winning 3-2.
